The ‘party line’, in a nutshell, is that when G-d feels that the time is right, the Messiah will come and the world will enter a ‘messianic era’. That term, I think, is pretty much open to interpretation, but I believe that it means that whatever things are like now, they’re not going to stay the same. Some folks think that we should wait patiently for the time; others believe that we can hasten the time by actively behaving in a manner that G-d would approve of, and causing others to do so as well. One additional note; many believe that the Third Temple will not be built until this time, and that it will be built as a symbol of this messianic era.
