Jennifer30873ParticipantI think that this is a question you can only answer on your own, through deep, honest introspection, but here are some points for you to ponder, as I have more than once: 1) Stockholm Syndrome. This is the name of an actual psychological condition in which captives come to identify with their captors. Another term you may be familiar with is ‘internalized oppression’. On a subconcious level, we may surrender to a certain extent to the views and preferences of the dominant culture. We both live in societies where, to one degree or another, we are bombarded with messages that white skin and features are preferable to our own. 2) Human beings have an enormous capacity to feel, beyond historical and social context. Love and sexual attraction are universal and irrational, which is what makes them trump most other motivations when given the latitude to do so. Therefore, since all people have aspects that make them attractive, it’s not too strange that you affirm those aspects in white people.
