For most Chaldean girls, their dress is not a sign of sexual availability, because their parents are very strict about them not having boyfriends, etc. However, for some, it is. I don’t think it is rebellion, either. I think it might have something to do with ‘feeling older’ if you dress older. Also, I don’t think they care about how their peers label them. P.S. I didn’t know there were any Chaldeans in Ohio. That’s a surprise to me.

Some of the Chaldeans you may have heard probably spoke their native language (Aramaic) because either they were more fluent in it than in English, or because they were saying something they didn’t want the ‘non-Chaldeans’ to hear.

Chaldean men can marry black women, but it is frowned upon in the community. It is also frowned upon to marry white women, or really any ‘non-Chaldean’ women, for that matter. The reason isn’t racism, though. It’s self-preservation. Because Chaldean people do not have a country of their own, their only hope for keeping their culture and people alive is to marry their own kind. They want to have ‘Chaldean’ grandchildren, and marrying black, Irish, Polish or any other group will make that impossible. P.S. I know of at least one marriage between a black man and a chaldean woman.

To be honest with you, this ‘Chaldean boy’ has never noticed white girls preferring Chaldeans over other white boys. P.S. I didn’t know there were Chaldeans in Connecticut. That’s a surprise to me.

I think Chaldeans fight in groups because they are used to being discriminated against by groups of people. Chaldeans come from Turkey, Iraq and Iran (countries with more than 95 percent Muslim populations), and they are an ‘unwanted’ Christian minority. They often congregate in groups because it helps them feel more secure. As far as being ‘cousins,’ because the Chaldean community is close-knit, and intermarriage among Chaldeans (as opposed to Chaldeans marrying non-Chaldeans) is common, and because Chaldeans are concentrated in a small area of Southeast Michigan, it is likely that many of the people who say ‘cousins’ are actually related to the people they congregate with.

Dear B. H., Chaldeans, like any other ethnic group, have people who don’t keep up their yards in good shape. There are, however, many who do. Your post is a stereotype, like if you were to say ‘I’ve noticed that many African-Americans do not keep the outside of their homes…’ You get the picture?
