Jason31247ParticipantIt all started back in Biblical times. Before refrigeration and sanitation, when many meats and foods were not properly cleaned or cared for. Pigs can carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans, so when people kept getting sick when they ate pork, some wise religious leaders decided to forbid it. Though they may not have known it was the bacteria and not the meat itself, and they may have thought it was a punishment from God, it was still a good idea. It’s still around today because its a tradition. Much the same way saying ‘bless you’ when someone sneezes. Back then, the meat truly was unclean, and I’m sure you know, old habits die hard.
