Jacob20980ParticipantI was a cutter for about seven years. I was really big on scratching my flesh whenever I had been in an argument with my family or girlfriends or whoever. Ostensibly, it was because I wanted to hurt myself for being bad or whatever. Actually (and this was explained to me by a therapist a couple years ago), when the skin is ruptured, the body releases endorphines to numb the pain. This is very addictive and can be a cold comfort (like, say, drugs) when you’re depressed. Just be careful; there is a large population of cutters in the world. I’ve known several. I stopped finally after I cut myself so badly I had to seek medical attention.
