I can’t speak for any other suburban neighborhoods, but where I live, the back yards are built for barbequing. It’s more roomy, and decks are out back. Also, some have pools in the back yard. I’m black, and the few times I’ve had a barbeque, it’s been in the back. It’s not about preserving our front lawns (mine looks terrible) or about being ‘tight-assed,’ it’s a simple matter of convenience.
