I think Noah’s Ark can be taken literally. From the creation of Adam until the flood, there were many factors that led to mutations. The human and animal genotypes were far more ‘pure’. Where did all the races come from? There is a large amount of genetic material in human DNA that is not expressed, and no one knows what its past (or future) function was. That material could well have provided the genetic variability before and shortly after the flood. Interbreeding (incest) was not a sin until many generations after the flood. In a mutational, untainted gene pool, interbreeding is not a problem. Noah did not have to gather two of each kind of creature. The Bible states that God provided the breeding pairs to him. He did gather food supplies. Also, not everything was gathered by twos. The clean animals (meaning those God permitted Noah to eat) were gathered by sevens. These could provide food. Many people can tell you that staying within the hull of a rocking boat for the first time will decrease your appetite. Unasked question: There would be enough room in the Ark if you collected juveniles (in some cases eggs) of each kind. Thus you don’t need all classes of dog from domestic to wolf – you just need two weaned puppies.
