I feel that way to an extent as well. My experience growing up in southern Virginia was that whites and blacks did not mix socially. Whites in general treated black folks like dirt, and would not want to be associated with them as friends, yet white men had no problem hitting on black women in very sexually suggestive ways. Couple that with my family history–a high percentage of white blood in both sides of my family due to rape by white men, and my mother and grandmother’s recollections of hiding when working/playing outside and white men came riding by because it was known that they would grab black girls and rape them. I grew up knowing which white families in town I was related to, but there was never any contact with them, and there was never any acknowledge of any kinship. I personally find it difficult to imagine how a person can know all this and not have any issues with it. I wouldn’t go so far as to call your friend a white man’s whore unless she dated white men exclusively. And I did know of several women who were, essentially, white men’s whores—they were the playthings of white men who didn’t even acknowledge knowing them when they saw one another at the market.
