As with many things, there is a grain of truth to this idea, but only a grain. I’ve been with my current partner for 4 years and we know several other male-male couples who have been together for that long or longer. However, it is more common for gay male relationships (not mine in particular) to be ‘open’ than it is for either heterosexual or lesbian relationships that I’ve observed. While I can’t say that the thought of going outside my relationship for sex never crosses my mind, it’s not high on my list of priorities. I love my partner very much and it is much more important to me that he can trust me than I get my thrills wherever I please.
