That seems a bit strange to me; I’ve never done that. It’s probably just a regional practice. I’m a little confused as to why they would leave a seat between them, though. The only thing that comes to mind is a fear of being considered gay, but that seems a bit ridiculous.

In all honesty I think it has to do with the media portraying that area as being so conservative, and most people, at least around here, consider conservatism to be ‘old fashioned’ for lack of a better description.
