As I understand modern Masonry, being a non-Mason myself, theirs is a mainly a social fraternal order with esoteric beginnings. As to the power of masons, many of the US founding fathers were Freemasons, and much of the symbology of our currency (the floating eye above a pyramid on the dolar bill, for example) are Masonic images. I’d suggest searching the net for more info, it is out there!
