The Quran does not speak specifically on smoking, as it does alcohol, but through reference a Muslim should not knowingly engage in a habit that is harmful. Muslims seek not to be a slave to anything except Allah. Most African-American Muslims do not smoke due to the discipline of the Nation of Islam under Elijah Muhammad through which most African-American Muslims emerged directly or indirectly.
