    You’re absolutely right. We’re killing time in order to stay on schedule. The worst thing a bus driver can do is run too far ahead of schedule. Route running times are based on making proper connections with other routes and allowances are made for the picking up and dropping off of passengers. If you are not stopping, either to pick up or drop off, you tend to get a little ahead of things. Our system uses an onboard data link to show our deviation from scheduled running times, and when the deviation becomes too great, we will remain at a stop in order to correct this. I have been bus driver for the Toronto Transit Commission for 14 years. There are many variables that can affect the posted schedule but we really do try our best to stay on track.
