    No offense, but I think your memory may be faulty. Mormons begin wearing unique undergarments after visiting a Mormon temple and taking part in sacred rites and covenants there. This is usually done by young men when they leave on their mission and by women when they get married. In either case, the individual must be an adult and found worthy to enter the temple by his/her ecclesiastic leader. It is not something school-age children would participate in. It is a very special, sacred ceremony, the details of which are not discussed outside the temple (but are available on several Internet sites if you do a search). The undergarments, or garments, as they are called, have stitched marks on them in several places that remind the wearer daily of the covenants he/she has made with God.
