Dan31671ParticipantThere are plenty of people out there who are bigots (realized or unrealized) who prejudge a black person without second thought. Yet I believe that in this day and age they are in the minority. I think with a lot of what you’ve observed, it could very well be more about familiarity and less about race. If a white lady walks down the street and sees a dozen roughneck looking guys with mean stares (who happen to be black) 15 feet ahead, her fearful reaction is understandable; just as it would be if there were a dozen or so crusty biker looking guys with prison tattoos and greasy mullet haircuts (who happen to be white). However, if a white guy balks at the sight of a couple black guys wearing regular clothes who seem to be in good humor, he should take a long hard look at himself. I think there is a fine line between fear due to unfamiliarity and fear due to prejudgement or prejudice, but there is indeed a line.
