Before Jesus, the afterlife was considered to be “Paradise,” and was commonly referred to as “Abraham’s Bosom.” Jesus mentions it when he talks about the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus (not the one who was ressurected). It also says in the New Testament that when Jesus comes back for his church and takes them up into the Kingdom, he will also take all those in Paradise along for the ride.
