There was a very interesting article in National Geographic a couple of months ago about Yemen and it talked about how the Yemen culture revolves around Qat. I think that it said 1/3 of their gross domestic product comes from Qat production. Qat is illegal in the U.S. but it can easily be found in cities where a Yemenite population resides. It is legal in Britain, though. It is not only used in Yemen; it is used throughout the Muslim world. You can always tell who uses Qat because they tend to look very tired, since Qat is a stimulant.
