Olympians take the Olympics seriously because they spend their lives preparing for it. They are professional athletes who only get to compete at that level once every four years, so yeah, it’s a big deal. Imagine you were in the NBA and didn’t play several times a week…instead all you trained for was the national championship, and your team only made it once every few years. If that was the focal point of your career, and it didn’t go according to plan, would you be upset?
