Carlton-B19256ParticipantFirst, I think people need to make a distinction between authentic African/Islamic heritage names, and names that are simply made up. Heritage names are something to be proud of and should not fall under the ‘weird name’ category. Fabricated names are hit-or-miss depending on the education level of the parents. Undereducation is unfortunately more widespread in the African-American community, so that’s where you see the strange-sounding fabricated names coming up more often. (although I’ve seen a number of Irish-heritage nuts go totally overboard.)
