    I agree with the other person who responded that it is a class issue, not a race issue. Most poor people feel that they are poor because they have been held back or passed over or that they are all bound in the same unfortunate struggle together with no hope of getting out. When agressed upon or angered, they often feel there is strength (and justification) in numbers and violent confrontation. The notion that the threats are, under the law, assault – rarely crosses their mind. What they are doing is mere survival and righting a wrong. Usually other means of appeal or confrontation are either not known, or have been tried and failed (and in their mind because the cards were stacked against them in the first place.) This is my opinion based on growing up in a poor ‘caste.’ It is not ‘right’ but it they way many poor feel.
