C. J.MemberMy parents were strictly against their children consuming alcohol all through my childhood. Around the age of 16 i started going to parties and got drunk for the first time. When I came home my parents had a talk with me about drinking the next morning, how much was a safe amount, never drink and drive, even some recipes for mixed drinks. THey told me if i wanted to drink socially i had to be responsible and safe. Those guidelines were set and i never had a problem with alcohol and i never drove drunk. Once a kid starts drinking in their teens or whenever its up to the parents to have a sit down with them.

C. J.MemberDuring 95 percent of my high school life I literally could not go anywhere without a mother stopping me to talk to her little boy about baseball or football or an older man stopping me just to talk about his experiences and asking when I’d be a professional ball player. The attention was nice at times when people were respectful, but others felt it was the obligation of the well-known to make their day better even when I didn’t have the time. Now that I’ve completed a baseball and football careeer at Boston College and am playing baseball for a local minor league baseball team, my level of relative ‘fame’ is even higher. It makes my day to be stopped in a store by a little kid wearing our team’s hat and to be asked for a picture or an autograph. On the other hand, however, it sucks being stopped by a balding middle aged man in a supermarket who wants to heckle me about making an error in the last ballgame he attended. I’m just a normal kid and sometimes have more on my agenda then stopping my day to respond to the ‘well-wishers.’ Please folks, be more respectful to those who are well known in your community – they have lives, too.
