One big contributor to how a person smells is the kind of food they cook. Cooking creates grease vapor that sticks to walls, clothing, furniture, everything. If a family cooks the same kind of food for years and years, the smell will eventually get into everything they own. This is why my grandmother’s house used to smell ‘fried’ before she sold it. Regarding the B.O. factor, it’s not race but income. A lot of people can’t afford air-conditioning or get nice desk jobs where they don’t sweat.
