I think there are three reasons kids are more prone to violence these days:
    1) The media has only recently, within the last few years, made youth violence an issue. Violence has always occurred, I would guess, but only now do the vast majority of people see the statistics and hear about what young people do after school.
    2) Latch-key kids. When school lets out at 3 p.m., many parents are not waiting for their child to come home. They are working. Children feel neglected and bored.
    3) Concerning the media again, when adolescents see individualistic people like themselves get major attention from the networks, it can make a neglected person feel violence is the only way to get attention. High school is tough, and many children feel isolated from their peers. They are nobodies, like the people given attention on TV. Attention is very important, and when there is none given, problems occur.
