Like you I have had ‘minimum wage’, and less, jobs in the past. But I can’t say that your perception was the norm but rather the exception. Its been my experience that open-minded people, not prone to snap judgements, don’t make this assumption. Yes, indeed, there are people out there who would make this assumption but these people, in my experience, tend to lack self-confidence and do this to make themselves feel more important or better. I learned a long time ago that I didn’t have to worry about what others thought of me. When I did that my life was much better. I am who I am, the sum total of my life experiences, and if someone can’t except the package that is their loss, not mine. I am quite happy with the person I see in the mirror in the morning, as you should be.

I find this particular statement, from someone with a college education especially, extremely biased and uninformed. Of all the people in the military, only a very small percentage are actually in combat roles. And they aren’t ‘killing people for a living’. Its been my experience, as a veteran, that most would rather do something other than fire their weapons. There is an old adage in the military that I give great credence. ‘No one hates war more than those who must wage it.’

I have been involved in relationships at the workplace and had good and bad experiences. The first instance after a few months the relationship went bad and it became very uncomfortable at work because of bad feelings between us. It caused some tension at work when people we worked with ‘took sides’. But at the same time, at that workplace relationships/affairs were commonplace as was the tension when the relationships went bad. In the second instance I wound up marrying the woman and we enjoyed a great work relationship. We worked in different departments but frequently had to interact. Our co-workers were very happy and supportive for both of us. The bottom line, I think, is that one cannot control how they feel about another person. Whether or not to act upon those feelings requires trust and fairness on both parts.
