Anonymous23697ParticipantI am a phone sex operator. Perhaps I don’t get the chance to see societal dynamics play out in exactly the same way a dancer or escort would, but I know enough about the demographics of my client base to plan my business accordingly. 99.9 per cent of my customers are white males. Therefore, although I’m not white, my character is. It’s obvious now that it was the right choice when I ‘created’ her, although I didn’t know what to expect at the time. I thought that if the sexual dynamics often so prevalent in society were echoed there, I’d not want to participate in what I felt was the inevitable ‘black woman as manish sexual dynamo’ stereotype. Since my clients assume that I look the way I say that I look, and since my voice gives no hints as to my ethnicity, especially with my voice filtered through my character’s voice, I don’t really get any exposure to racism directly. I have noticed that among the fetishes some clients have are a fascination with black male sexuality. Some are very titilated with the idea of my white character having been involved with black men. Those who are involved often fantasize about seeing their wives being screwed by a large black man. Some with homosexual fantasies talk about being forced to satisfy a black man who has a very large penis. Usually, because of my own distaste for the stereotype of the hyper-sexual ‘big black buck,’ I tell them I haven’t ever been with a black man. I don’t want to perpetuate society’s perverse racial undercurrent. With regard to gender, class or sexual orientation, I’m not sure how that plays in. All any of my clients have is my voice, and that’s all I have of them. I don’t know where else they fit in.
