There is a huge misinterpretation of the whole skinhead thing. Skinheads are NOT intrinsically racist. There are certain 'sects' that are. There are also certain sects that are vehemently opposed to rascism. If you've ever heard of 'sharpies,' for example, they are a sect of skinheads who are very much opposed to racism. What characterizes someone as a skinhead has less to do with their feelings on race and more to do with their feelings on society as a whole. Naturally a skinhead has, in general, a certain look. Most all have a bald head, and many wear the 'pork chop' sideburns. They often dress in tight jeans, certain types of shirts (Fred Perrys or Ben Shermans, which are polo-type shirts or button-downs) and combat boots - usually steel-toe Doc Martens. They are, as your friend said, 'working class' folks. They usually have a very strong worth ethic and usually congregate together. They are often characterized by their choice of music, which usually consists of 'Oi' music, Punk, Ska and Reggae (yes, Reggae, believe it or not). More than anything else, being a skinhead is like being part of a fraternal order. Unless your friend is proudly displaying a swastika or listening to bands like 'Skrewdriver,' you have no reason to think he's a racist. In fact, I know some black skinheads who'd be pretty upset if they were lumped into that category.

The child will always be a combination of the parents color. It will be somewhere in-between the skin color of both parents. Whether that makes the child black or white... I think that the child is both. People can't always fit into the containers we make for them. I think what's important is that everybody coexist peacefully rather than worrying about 'extinction' of the white race.

I think that there is something very important here that a lot of people forget about, and that's the fact that human beings are animals and still have many animal instincts. That is the 'base' of what people look for in a mate. For example, men want someone who will 'carry on the bloodline' of the 'tribe,' i.e. someone who is genetically strong to keep the family going. This 'survival of the fittest' urge generally translates in modern society into an attractive, healthy looking woman. Now the interpretation of what healthy looking is varies from culture to culture, but in white, mainstream America, that beauty is equal to a thin woman. Similarly, with women, we have our urges for the brave hunter who will protect our village... Once again, this translates very differently from culture to culture, but in mainstream white America this generally translates into rich guys who are powerful. Obviously not everyone subscribes 100 percent to these ideals, but I think the part that evolution and biology play in our likes and dislikes cannot be overlooked.

I'm not familiar with the songs, but White Castle is a fast food place, like McDonald's or something, in the US. I see that you're from Canada, and I don't know if they have them there, but maybe that's what they're referring to ?

I feel the key to happiness is personal interaction. Talking to people, going out, etc. You said you don't have many friends, and it seems you may be a bit insecure? I would make myself 'available' to whoever was around, even just as a first step. For example, if a bunch of guys from work are going out, join them. Even if you aren't crazy about them, you may be able to meet other people while you're out. Or stop at a book store and spark up a conversation with someone reading a book that interests you. Just relax and smile. Go out and have fun.

in reply to: Why are they so ugly? #44900

Well, first of all to ask why a skinhead girl would have 'short-punkish hair' is pretty simple. 'SKIN' head, as in no hair... female skinheads generally wear a 'fringe' which is very short all around but has longer hair around the face. If you are asking why Nazi skinheads' 'movie girlfriends' are ugly, they were obviously cast that way. I mean you wouldn't cast Sydney Poitier as a street thug, you'd cast someone who's looks matched the movie personality. In real life many skinhead girls might not appeal (physically) to the mainstream. People have style preferences. In real life, though, the 'girls' of skinheads (I don't just mean Nazi Skinheads here) are not what you necessarily see in the movies... just like the rest of life isn't necessarily what you seen in movies. I am the wife of a skinhead and I am VERY feminine and considered to be attractive. I have a clean face, no raggish clothes. What you're seeing is the movies. It's just a part of somebody else's imagination.

Although I don't necessarily subscribe to these beliefs, I think for the most part Americans view Arabs as Muslims and terrorists. I know it sounds a little harsh to make such a sweeping generalization, but I think it's important to note, too, the way Arabs have been portrayed in American media, movies, news, etc. What's even more amusing is the way many Americans refer to all Middle-Easterners as 'Indians' or 'Pakistanis,' as if they were all from the same country!
