AlmaParticipantI work in a military hospital and we have had to literally fire some nurses because they refuse to either cut their nails or refrain from going to the ‘fake nail’ shops to have long, deorated nails attached to their hands. From what I have seen, it is not a race issue, but a self-confidence issue that many women view as a way to attract men. For reference, health care issues absolutely forbid the wearing of long nails, artificial or otherwise, if you are involved in healthcare; yet we have had to become very aggressive toward this issue…go figure.

AlmaParticipantThis behavior is rude, offensive and completely inappropriate in the workplace, gay, straight, bi or transgendered, period. As a out-of-the-closet lesbian for over 20 years and a former union steward, I can tell you this behavior is not inherent to her sexual orientation. She’s either trying to control and humiliate women with this behavior, or she has some serious emotional issues that she needs to deal with. In either case, the first rule of sexual harrassment, to confront and identiy, needs to apply here. Confront and identify…’I don’t know why you’re staring at my body like this, but I find it very offensive. Stop it or I’ll file a sexual harrassment complaint against you and I will forward the complaint all the way up the chain if necessary.’

AlmaParticipantone of the main issues I think you are addressing is that human sexuality is ‘fluid’, that is its not something that is cut in stone like the color of our hair or eyes. That does not mean that we can ‘choose’ our sexual orientation, but it does mean we can try to suppress it; sometimes for years and many times in the process of procreation. The bottom line revolves around what we really, instinctively, inherently want and need as opposed to what society thinks we should do…

AlmaParticipantif it doesn’t matter, what did you comment on it? A secondary issue to this question is the complaint that many black women espouse that there are not enough available black men who have jobs and are not in jail….did this original question bother you for that reason???
