Alex CParticipantStereotypically, as you say, one can find many more parallels between Russians and African Americans in general. Speaking seriously, Russians are on average more abrasive than Americans. Many Russians resent the ubiquitous American smile as insincere and ‘glued-on’ or downright stupid (‘Smile! The boss likes idiots.’) Still, to explain these ladies’ demeanor, one should consider their background. What part of Russia were they raised in? What were their parents? Where, if anywhere, did they go to college? What is their ethnicity? Class and cultural distinctions in Russia are more subtle than in the US, but can be enormously important.
