In Islam there is only one required contract and that is the religious one. The requirements for it include 2 male witnesses the groom and the male guardian of the bride along with her consent. This contract gives a woman all of her full rights as a Muslim including the conjugal, and financial rights. In the case of a dispute, a woman should go to the local imam (islamic scholar) to work out any issues or request a divorce. As for the civil contract, it is the legal binding in the country, as in the US one must submit the appropriate legal paperwork to recognize a spouse. This protects a woman where she can go to the court in the case of a dispute.

As a Muslim, we only celebrate 2 holidays. One is called Eid al fitr and the other is eid al-adha. So when I am approached by a person of another faith I tell them that I am Muslim and do not celebrate except the two holidays I mentioned above. Most people accept happily, some get shy and apologize. I make sure that no one feels bad for greeting me but understands not to greet the next Muslim the same way 🙂

After converting to Islam, NO distinctions or differences are made. A muslim born or converted stands the same in the face of God and therefore must be treated with no distinction among the other Muslims. In fact the Muslim community should greet a convert full heartedly and help them learn about Islam and attach the to the community. If you converted congratulations and I greet you with the greeting of Islam: Assalamu alaikum wa Rahmat Ullahi Wa Barakatuhu

Cynthia is correct. It is okay for Muslim men to marry non-muslim women (only the people of the book; Christians and Jews) with the intent to raise the children as muslim. As for Muslim women, they are not permitted to marry non-Muslim men because the man is usually the dominant person in the relationship. The islamic religion is very protective over spreading the message of Islam and raising children on the religion.

Muslims walk around the Kaabah in Mekka to imitate what prophet Abraham peace be upon him did. They walk bakc an forth in what is called the safa and marwa to imitate what the prophet Mohamed PBUH’s wife Hajar did when in search for water. It was there that the natural spring (zamzam) came out from the ground. Muslims are required to make this pilgrimage one time in their life when they are capable (physically and financially) of doing so. It is one of the five pillars of Islam.
