I have lived in Aust for 8 years and as a Canadian I have noticed a marked difference in the level of sexism between Aust and Canada. I would agree in saying that the sexism in Aust is not only ascribed to by males but seems to be bought into by a fair portion of females. Canada on the other hand with every visit seems to be getting more and more stifilingly politically correct. While saxism in many cases is intollerable it does bring a certain amount of liberating expression with it in certyain arenas. Outside the workforce this expression of sexism is I beleive so ingraned in the culture that it is not as taken seriously as one might expect and as such to an ‘outsider’ it may be found offensive. On occasion I have found during a visit home that the high level of policically correctness can be repressive and I sometimes feel that Canadians (myself included) just need top lighten up a little.
