robinMemberI lived in a dorm where myself and my roommate were the only white girls on the floor. We got along great with everyone as the year went on, but I was frustrated by something that had happened earlier in the year. The girl who lived next to me was blasting her music one night. Our walls were paper thin and I could hear the music like it was coming out of my own speakers. So, I knocked on her door and asked her if she could turn it down because it was one in the morning and i had a nine o’clock class the next morning–you know, i wanted to get some sleep. She instantly wanted to know if I asked her this because she was black, like, ‘what, is it because i’m black?’ I admit, I was pissed off after she said that because why would I care if she was black…she was listening to music at top volume in the middle of the night. I dont care if you’re black, red, green..whatever. I guess what i’m trying to say is why would she have said that? did i say something to trigger that, or is that just something people use to intimidate others?
