    why do people say you signed your life away when you join the army

    Because the chances of your dying or being physcially maimed or psychologically damaged for life are much greater than in most occupations. A more benevolent interpretation of the phrase “signing your life away” may be that when you’re in the military, you take orders for the (perceived) good of the group and your personal decision making rights are severely limited by this. Just Curious
