Do other cultures treat elderly persons with more respect than is typically shown to the elderly population in American?

In Asian cultures, particulary, the elderly are given a great deal of respect. Also in the Native American culture (both North and South of the border), the elderly are greatly respected. In America, the elderly have become like so much else in our lives: disposable. Love and Light, Rev. Shelly
