I am the mom of a 3 year old. She is very curious about people who look or act differently than what she’s seen before. How do I help her discuss what she is seeing without embarassing or objectifying the person? For example, a wheelchair-bound person, or a person with a prosthetic limb. Is it proper for me to say something to my child like ‘yes, that person has a problem walking, so he uses a wheelchair’ or should it be more like ‘let’s go talk to that person and find out why he is using a wheelchair’ or something else entirely???
