Charlestown is a community with more than it’s share of problems. It’s also one with a feeling of closeness that I’ve never seen elsewhere except maybe Southie. For all the bad we’re known for, I see so much good to circumvent it that it annoys me that we’re not given credit for it. Rather, we are called ‘the most dangerous neighborhood in American’ and ‘the last White ghetto’ and we are portrayed as racist, drug-addicted, and of course Irish drunks. I see a correlation of this with other poor Whites, and I’m curious as to what is most people’s perceptions of poor White people? Maybe someone can shed some light on why these stereotypes have lasted and where they came from. Cheers
