Kathy26653ParticipantWhy do so many people, especially women, need to get their opinions from celebrities? I can’t count the number of times that my co-workers come to work saying Oprah said this on her show or Julia said that or Rosie said something else. Can’t women form their own opinions?

Bella23325ParticipantI think women are capable of forming their own opinions. Saying that you heard something on Oprah doesn’t mean you agree with what was presented or even the way it was presented. It means that that’s where you heard it. You could say ‘I saw it in the newspapers’ or ‘I saw it on 60 Minutes’ or that it was on Donahue. It doesn’t mean we are worshipping, and it doesn’t mean we agree with the source.

LaniParticipantI don’t think woman need to form their ideals from celebrities, but almost everyone knows who these people are. If my hero were my best friend, I could tell a co-worker that, and it woulden’t mean a thing. If I quoted her, it woulden’t mean much. If I said Angelina Jolie was my hero, people respond to that. They can agree or disagree; it can turn into a whole conversation. In addition to that, these are beautiful, successful woman who seem to be able to deal with the pressure of woman all over the world looking up to them. Let’s face it, that’s what we all want to be. Rich, beautiful, self-made, capable and strong.
