Why are there so few women in engineering? When I was in school, the ratio of female to male engineers was nearly 1 to 50. And the few women engineers I did meet were studying Industrial Engineering which is generally more management oriented. The few women I met in Computer, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering were mostly immigrants from China. When I entered the work force this ratio became much worse. I currently work at a facility that employs nearly 400 engineers and only 5 of them are women (all of them are from China).
