CathyMemberI have been slender all of my life. I am not a fanatic about diet and exercise, but I do take care of myself. Why do women who are larger than I am feel that it’s OK to call me names or say things like, ‘You’re so thin, I hate you.’ I get tired of the comments and questions: ‘You must work out a lot.’ ‘How do you stay so thin?’ ‘YOU eat ice cream??!!’? I would never say to them, ‘How do you stay so heavy? You must never exercise.’ Perhaps they intend these comments as compliments? I feel like I have to reassure them that it’s genetic and not a lot of effort, or somehow make excuses for the way I look. It makes me uncomfortable that my size is an open topic for discussion, whereas it would be considered impolite to mention someone’s larger size.
