I do not think gay marriage should be illegal. I am not gay myself, do not have any gay friends, and only personally know two people that are gay. Still, I do not understand why gay marriage is illegal. I have heard the arguments about how the sanctity of marriage should be protected and stay between a man and a woman, but to me prohibiting two people from marrying sounds a lot like discrimination. I do not think it will be long before gay marriage is legal, and when it is i’m sure it will be looked upon in the same reguard as racial and sexual discrimination. Give me your thoughts.

People who say marriage is “threatened” by gays and lesbians are misguided. I think they’re probably just trying to cover up their own prejudices. Gays and lesbians already form long-term romantic partnerships which really are “marriages” in every respect except for the fact that they don’t have a piece of paper from the government saying so. Some churches do not want to allow same-sex couples to marry. This is their decision based on their beliefs, and nobody should interfere with it. However, the government belongs to all of us, not just people in those religions. Same-sex marriage would allow gay and lesbian couples to have the same government-granted legal rights as heterosexual couples, but would not infringe on the religious rights of churches which chose not to allow same-

the people who are anti-gay marriage are the same bible bangers who are caught in affairs with prostitutes. they just believe that their book is infallible, but this same part of the bible is the one feturing the laws that few follow today. I.E no wearing clothing with different colored thread, and the rules outlawing certain foods. (yes, i KNOW that jews and muslims follow the food laws. but the majority of people dont. i dont mean to be disrespectful)

Certain politicians have realized there are Americans out there who are easily confused by social issues such as gay marriage, prayer in school and the like. Clearly these things have no affect on the average person’s life. Sadly too many of us are not bright enough to comprehend the things that really matter, like the fact that our country is broke and falling apart.

Actually, recognizing marriage based on religion is not a function of government. A more equitable and Constitutional approach would be for the government to recognize all such unions as Domestic Partnerships and leave the definition of marriage up to the individual denominations. That way the government stays neutral, and if a Baptist wants to not recognize a gay couple’s wedding in a Unitarian Church as a marriage, they’re welcome to do so. This keeps the government from giving one group of people’s religious values the force of law. No law should exist that doesn’t protect life, liberty, or property.
