KristinaMemberWhy is it that in the black community when someone attains academic and financial success they viewed as acting ‘white?’ This is especially the case with lower-class, inner-city blacks. It’s like if you’re not dribbling a basketball in hopes of success you’re not accepted, and this mentality is frustrating to those trying to achieve. I mean, blacks are always complaining about their socieconomic status, but when someone is able to change it by using their minds (not like entertainers or basketball players), they are chastized, and few want to follow their example. It seems as if blacks still think that they can not use their intellect to progress — only the physical can be used. And also, when it comes to demeanor, if you are speaking bad English and dress like a ‘gansta’ you are acting ‘black.’ I don’t understand why we ourselves have to associate blackness with a lower-class, uneducated, and impoverished state of mind.
