TonyMemberI’ve seen some Americans (mostly white) grab and pinch their earlobes when someone passes gas. What’s the meaning behind this?

Teresa28590ParticipantHonestly I’ve never seen any person–no matter what race–pinch their ears upon hearing gas passed. This might be a regional or a cultural thing with which I am not familiar. It does sound kind of funny though–maybe I should start doing it.

ChrisMemberThis is due to the fact that whites breathe out of their ears. Primarily because the odor from the shit that comes out of their mouth would be too bad if they breathed out of their nose.

Laurie-Brandt28702ParticipantI live in Boston too, but I have NEVER seen anyone, of any race, pinch their ears after a fart.

Layla H.MemberThis is an interesting question as I have never heard of anyone making this gesture. I have to say that I do not believe this is a common white (or otherwise) practice. I have never seen anyone do this, and have never done this myself.
