ImariMemberWhy do some Queens hate lesbians? You would think that we would band together and be supportive of each other, being on the same side of this issue.

KevinParticipantGay males, or ‘Queens’ as you so eloquently put it, do not have an irrational hate of lesbians. Many people asked that question after seeing the popular NBC show ‘Will and Grace’ when Jack had an irrational dislikes torward lesbians. This is not at all realistic behavior when referring to the gay community. Sure, some gays out there probably hate lesbians but it is not a predominant or even seen trait among gay men. Usually the gay community, like other minority cultures, stick together. From my observation of my community, we enjoy socializing with people who are homosexual–gay and lesbian. When making judgments or statements like these, one must ask oneself if they are seeing something objectively or basing beliefs on non-existent and weak foundations and stereotypes.

Ann L. LowensteinParticipantPerhaps it has something to do with the fact that some Lesbians are humorless hags who view all males as ‘the enemy’, and especially hate trannies and ‘Queens’…

KayeWatsonMemberIt’s not exactly the same side or the same issue. Drag Queens might be gay guys who enjoy performing, straight men who like women’s clothes, or a transgendered person who is a straight woman on the inside even if her genitalia doesn’t match up. Sadly, I think that a lack of understanding causes some Queens or lesbians to dislike or suspect each other. The Queer/LGBT community does not hold a monopoly on tolerance and some members of it are as bad as the homophobic/heterosexist people they complain about.

ShellyStrauss RollisonParticipantThere are always going to be people who hold prejudices against others for no logical reason and in spite of logic that says they should be allies. There really is no answer to this question unless you can figure out why people are prejudiced.

DavidKincheloeParticipantGood question. Generally gay men and lesbians have their orientations and their politics in common. But, not always. Gays, Lesbians, Transgendered people, Bisexuals often have as diverse political or religious or economic or racial or linguistic distributions as the heterosexual populations to which they are born. In direct answer to your question, some gay men (I’m assuming by “queen” you meant “gay men”) are uncomfortable with lesbians for the same reasons (according to research) as men, in general, are uncomfortable with women, in general. In addition to what might be called generalized cultural differences between the genders, gay men have no sexual motivation for interacting (civilly) with women. Thus, sometimes the lack of understanding, or even tolerance, between

AlainaRParticipantBecause most Queens care about one thing. Themselves. They don’t like straight people, they don’t like bi-sexuals and they certainly don’t like lesbians. Don’t know why but they are a main reason that the Gay community has a hard time organizing.
