I don’t understand why so many African-Americans dislike members of the gay/lesbian community so much. I understand that many of these feelings come from religious teachings, but this does not explain the genuine and passionate hatred that we have experienced from many in the black community. You would think that African-Americans would identify with the current struggles that gays and lesbians are fighting in America and either support our initiatives or remain neutral. Aside from a few select African-American groups or individuals, it’s been quite the opposite. The opposition is hypocritical, and I don’t understand it at all.
