MayParticipantI’m a Dyslexic youth. Often people (including my old school system) don’t even believe I am learning disabled because I am a very bright person. Other people Find that I am learning disabled and assume i am retarded or recieve medication as if i was ADHD. I am dyslexic and I have learned to compensate for my disability very well with a few accomidations. When I recieve these accomidations my peers say that it isn’t fair and they feel they deserve the same treatment. I wish people could just accept my learning disability as a challenge I have to face everyday but at the same time not something that defines my life. I would also like people to realize that IQ is not determined by disabilities and I may a higher IQ than some of those ignorant people who think I am retarded. I don’t see why in schools or some other medium of conveying information, people couldn’t be educated to understand dyslexia and other learning disability conditions belonging to otherwise intelligent people.
