RhondaMemberI’ve grown tired of reading and hearing people from various parts of the world (of course, including Americans) arguing with one another over various things from sports to intelligence, to politics, and back. This isn’t limited to day-to-day transactions, but such arguments are even featured on the news between people who are supposed to be able to discuss thier standpoints without resorting to behaving like children. I’m all for wanting to hear everyone’s opinion, but when it leads to a group of people insulting each other on everything imaginable, I start to wonder why anyone even bothers getting into any kind of discourse at all. Is it simply so that they can insult one another and feel better about thier viewpoint? I feel that is unacceptable! Even the art of debate has turned into an excuse to exchange subtle insults– The one with the most insulting thing to say winning the debate by stupefying his competitor. And over what? If it’s an unimportant thing, then everyone is wasting thier time. And if the topic at hand happens to be an important thing, then everyone still wastes thier time because they’re so busy blaming each other for the woes of the world that they never actually accomplish anything. Please explain this tendancy among people from different parts of the world to argue at the drop of a hat. In times like the ones currently at hand, this trend greatly discourages me.
