I am white and work at a university where you have to show an ID to get in the building. The security guards are all – without exception – African American. Usually they don’t ask to see my ID, even if they’ve never seen me before. But they do ask blacks and Hispanics for their IDs. Why is this? Do they not see me as a security risk, and if so, why?
