NickyParticipantWhile I can’t speak for the whole ‘white’ race, I will explain my stance with my feline children. I have found that I prefer the company of non-human animals to human animals most of the time because non human animals do not judge you on your appearance, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, etc, etc. I have had people whom I thought I could be friends with,(at first) treat me like shit, just because I didn’t believe the way they do. My cats love me because I treat them with respect and love. Non human animals do not go around murdering, raping, or hurting others of their kind just cause they don’t feel good about themselves. They also don’t kill other species just to see what it’s like to kill or hurt another. (future serial killers are known to start with torturing non human animals when they’re children) Now what I don’t understand is why so many Black people are afraid of cats?

Gabriel21755ParticipantI’m a white guy and think the only physically and mentally healthy life you can provide for a domestic animal is out of doors. There is no reason to keep any pet but a cat (mouser) in the house. Dogs don’t provide anything but a mess and are happier outdoors. I suggest not owning a dog unless you can walk it about eight hours a day or have a spacious back yard (an acre is good) for it to roam. Even if you walk it plenty, if you live in the city you’ve still got to leash it even in most parks, so what’s the point? The only good reason to keep a large, space-loving animal like a dog in a city is for protection or security. I saw a guy once crossing the Pine and Saginaw with a German Shepherd that was so big and strong its leash was thick chain attached to a lead pipe for a handle. The guy had to hold the pipe to his chest with both hands to hold the dog back. The dog itself on its hind legs was as tall as this guy was, and it was jumping around like mad. Some people would be horrified, but to me it was at least a dog with obviously some purpose in life. It had a smile on its face a mile wide. On the other hand I see a lot of fashionable dogs that look real pretty until you notice they are droopy, crappy and depressed with their little 10-minute ‘walkies.’ As far as dogs licking the face, dogs have clean mouths, they like to show affection and they like the taste of sweat. As for sleeping in the bed, that’s heinous. Cats are clean, too. Licking the face, sleeping in the bed, whatever. But a cat also needs to get out and enjoy the outdoors, kill some little creatures, some birds, poop on a bush, etc. It’s sort of wrong to not strap a collar and ID-tag on it and let it roam. Obviously if you live on a busy street, you might want to go out with your cat on a leash a few times and see what it’s interested in. If it goes for the street, maybe it needs a new home. Many cats are smart enough not to run in front of traffic, but I’ve seen some kept locked indoors suddenly get out and head straight for the cars. As far as meals, I rarely eat out. It’s too expensive. As far as whether this is a white or nonwhite thing, I don’t follow.

TG27580ParticipantI have a dog for companionship and enjoyment. Dogs offer unconditonal love. That is why my dog lives in my home and sleeps in my bed. My dog is bathed regularly, and my home does not smell. Blacks I know have dogs for protection and keep them outside. I have my dog to love.

Kimberly26386ParticipantAs an animal lover I am sick and tired of seeing Blacks not caring for their animal companions properly. Leaving them on chains, poor diets, and medical care – yea right. Shape up Black people and take responsibility for your pets.
