Am I the only one bothered by who the media and public has chosen to annoint in the ‘Latin Explosion’? People like Cristina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, Cameron Diaz, and Salma Hayek are all conspicuously light skinned and European in background and appearance. Even Jennifer Lopez wound up dying her formerly beautiful dark hair to that ugly orange-blond to sell hair dye to Latinas so they could look ‘more white’. Why didn’t the media choose Latinos who, like more than 90% of the Latinos in the US, are of black and/or Indian appearance and heritage? The only major exception seems to be Lou Bega. Do whites (or the white media) really feel that threatened that they have to choose only those Latinos that look most like them?
