AnonParticipantI have been wondering how the civil rights movement of the 50s and 60s became a black only movement in the 80s and 90s. Originally, it civil rights marches were supported by all races, especially jews who had fresh memories of the holocaust. Jews were slaves once too and also have the money and organizational skills. Now, there are only people like Al Sharpton, Louis Farahkhan and Jessie Jackson whose sole purpose seems to be to put themselves in front of a camera when someone is senselessly beaten by the police. I think the jews (and others) left the movement because of the influence of Malcom X and the Nation of Islam, which is boldy anti-semetic and black only. This alienated the jews (and others), who were the backbone of the early civil rights movement. Nevertheless, now that people arab decent are having their civil rights trampled upon, no one seems to be stepping up to speak for them. The movement has become black only, and in my opinion we all suffer as a result. So I guess my question is why do blacks support a person like Sharpton, who has been convicted of fraud and perjury, and he is clearly preventing meaningful change in our society? Second, why do some (but clearly not most) blacks hate jews so much, given the common history of racial oppression?
