What’s with the African American ‘Pantyhose Hat?’

    And when I say ‘Pantyhose Hat,’ I don’t mean the standard wool ‘Stocking Cap’ worn by members of nearly all races in areas where the weather is cold. I mean something that looks like a variation on the ‘Stocking Cap’ – It looks like it was made from an actual pair of pantyhose, i.e. some sort of thin nylon material, sometimes with a knot at the top. I’ve only seen African American men wear these, and I’ve been wondering why. Is it just a fashion thing, or is there some other reason?
